Hola!

Burriana Playa
I'm back! Had a fantastic 5 days away in glorious Nerja. The weather was fantastic and even though it wasn't roasting, I've managed to come back with a bit of tan. Woo, go me!

I do love Nerja. After all the years of visiting there it has become like a second home to me, so, this blog post has a few hints and tips for you all if you ever decide to visit, and believe me you should.

Burriana Beach is made up of sand and shingle and has numerous beach bars and restaurants lining the shore, enough that you could eat somewhere different every day if it pleased you. We tend to stick to "La Barca" for lunchtimes as the "Gambas Pil-Pil" is to die for! If the beach isn't your thing, the apartments on Burriana allow you to do all the tanning you require with a sea view sans sand. Or if you're like me, being within jumping distance of the beach it's very hard to say no, and who wants to stay in their apartment all holiday anyway?

Strawberry Daiquiri

So, after a day on the beach we would go back to our sea front apartment to get ready for dinner in town. But before that surely you'd be best lining your stomach with a little cocktail first? "Bar H2O" is situated just to the side of Burriana Beach and with delicious cocktails of every colour and size imaginable you have to try them all! My tipple of choice was the mouthwateringly good Strawberry Daiquiri.
"Chorizo Infierno"

After you've had your cocktail fill, a short 5 minute walk (no heels girls, it's all uphill) and you'll end up on Rue de Carabeo. A traditional Spanish road nestled with restaurants and tavernas for all budgets.

"Los Barriles" is a little taverna at the town end of Rue de Carabeo. With it's barrel tables, quaint decor, and it's speciality, "Chorizo Infierno", for just €2. This place soon became a firm favourite. So much so, on our last night the owner chased us down the street with a bottle of wine to say thanks and to wish us a safe flight!

View from "Antica Roma"
"Antica Roma" is the Italian opposite "Los Barriles" and hosts the best views of the sea and Balcon de Europa, it's no surprise that this place gets very busy so it's best to book in advance, especially if you want a seat close to the view. From here, on a clear day they say you can see all the way to Africa! My Dad and brother would both recommend from Antica's menu the Beef Carpaccio - thin slices of raw beef dressed with olive oil, lemon juice and seasoning served on a bed of rocket.

"Carabeo Restaurante 34" is a restaurant situated in the boutique hotel of the same name. A pricier menu but definitely worth it, the food is divine and I have never had a fillet steak like it! The traditional flamenco guitarist every Wednesday and Sunday makes the evening magically complete.

Losbster and Strawberry Salad
Situated behind El Salvador Church is "Casa Luque". We only sampled the gourmet tapas from this place but it also has an impressive a la carte menu if that's more your cup of tea. The "Ensaladilla de Bogavante con Fresas" (Lobster and Strawberry Salad) and "Carrilleras de Cerdo al Agridulce de Miel de CaƱa de Frigiliana" (Slow cooked Pork cheeks with Frigliana Molasses) are worth the plane flight alone. The strawberry boosts the flavour of the lobster like you'd never believe, and the pork cheeks are so tender it literally melts in your mouth.

Obviously, the fun of holidays are exploring new and exciting places yourself but these places are definitely my "Best of Nerja". If we keep returning year after year they must be doing something right, right?
You can definitely tell I enjoyed myself anyway as the diet pretty much was left at home, and it's shown. 5 lbs back on in 5 days means I get to enjoy another attack phase of the Dukan Diet. The joy! Hope you enjoy this little taster of "Nerja", I did! :)
